The story began on our allotment. I had shared some produce with colleagues, and one of them suggested that I should consider producing honey too!
Given the falling population of bees, I became enthusiastic about that idea of beekeeping. I have always enjoyed being outdoors alongside nature, watching robins land on my plot for worms after I had turned over the soil, and bees foraging on local plants and flowers during spring to autumn seasons; pollinating as they travel from plant to plant.
I obtained books about beekeeping and was quickly enthused after reading . Next, I joined a local beekeeping association which presented me with the opportunity to access beehives and learn about the behaviour of bees.
I took the plunge and decided to get some beehives of my own, which have since flourished at the end of my garden, which backs onto the allotment where it all began.
Bees are, and beekeeping keeping is a gift that keeps on giving, and has enabled Rodney’s Bees to produce an array of beehive based skin care products, containing honey and beeswax. We also produce pure beeswax candles and great tasting sustainably produced honey from bees raised in Beckenham, Kent . The forage here includes nectar and pollen from various trees and flowers, such as snow drops, hazel, crocus, plums, apple, pear, forget me nots, summer garden flowers, sunflower, borage, lavender, aster, buddleia, blackberry, globe artichoke, Virginia creeper, iris and Ivy flower, just to name a few...
